TEG in the Community

Engaging With The Community

To us, being a full service financial institution means doing more than simply providing financial products and services. That’s why we give back to our community in a variety of ways. From supporting local charitable organizations to getting involved in making a difference for the towns that we serve, TEG employees take pride in making a difference.

Fundraising

TEG supports a variety of community events and fundraisers throughout the year. We’re active members of the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce, which offers many opportunities for community involvement. We’ve also participated in the Hudson Valley Family Fest, Hyde Park Fall Fest, Newburgh Illuminated Festival, Nesheiwat Square Family Health Day, community days throughout the area we serve, and many other events.

Through our fundraising efforts, we raised over $45,000 last year for organizations like the March of Dimes, the American Heart Association, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the American Society for Suicide Prevention, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Newburgh and several more. We also organized, sponsored and hosted a Farm to Table event to benefit the Mid-Hudson Children’s Museum, raising more than $9,000.

During the holiday season, we adopted a family through the DCRCOC Adopt a Family program; participated in Toys for Tots and the Dutchess Outreach Coat Drive; and partnered with other local credit unions to collect $11,720 in food and cash donations for Castle Point VA Hospital.

Education & Scholarships

As a credit union that started by serving teachers, education is particularly important to us. We believe in supporting students at all levels to help them achieve more. We conduct the Student of the Month program for DC Boces and Arlington High School in conjunction with the Arlington/Poughkeepsie Rotary. We’re also sponsors of the Literacy Connections Spelling Bee and participate in several Marist College events. TEG runs the School Savers program in Brinckerhoff, Glenham, Titusville and Gov. Clinton Elementary schools, and we’re continue to expand this support to additional schools.

Each year, we award three $1,000 TEG-Joyce A. Betros Scholarships to area high school students and one TEG-Cathy Romano Writing Scholarship to a DC Boces BETA student. We also honor Boces BETA Students of the Year and award certificates and savings accounts to Dutchess County Science Fair Winners.

Lifelong Financial Education

Financial education doesn’t stop when you graduate from high school or college; it’s a lifelong pursuit! We support several financial education initiatives to help members of our community take control of their financial lives and reach their goals. These initiatives include teaching classes through Arlington Continuing Education, Wappingers Continuing Education and the LaGrange Library; making presentations to Adult Learning Institute (ALI/BOCES) students and BOCES Career Development and Occupational Studies (CDOS) students; and speaking to students at in grades K through 12 about personal finance at a number of local schools.

We frequently host free evening seminars for members in our Commerce St. branch lobby.
