About Us
At TEG Federal Credit Union, we know that choosing where to save, invest, and borrow from are some of the biggest decisions any person faces. That’s why we take our responsibility to our members seriously. We’re proud to be local, member-owned, and not for profit.
Our Mission
At TEG Federal Credit Union, your best interests have always been our focus. We’ve stayed true to our original commitment of offering our members a better alternative to banks, and we’re proud to serve our growing field of membership with practical advice, realistic solutions, and a smile.
Our Bylaws
Our bylaws provide a framework for the operation and management of our credit union. They address a wide range of matters concerning our organization and governance, our relationship with our members, and the procedures and rules we follow.
Responsibility
Today, we’re proud to be able to continue to be a great partner to the communities we serve! We believe in having members for life, which means we’ll be there for you through both the good times and the challenging times. We know that you’re more than just a number, so when you need a loan we’ll take the time to understand your story and look for ways to help you instead of just focusing on your credit score. And if we’re not able to help you right away, we will work with you to develop a plan so that we can help you in the very near future.
The TEGFCU Story
Our local roots stretch back to 1969, when teachers from the Wappingers Central school district decided to create an alternative to the banks they had been using. Desiring a financial institution that would provide fair and equitable treatment, they successfully chartered the Wappingers Central Federal Credit on April 25, 1969 with the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA).
Over the years, our field of membership has expanded to be more and more inclusive. In March 1976, we began offering the benefits of credit union membership to the government workers of Dutchess County. With that expansion, our name changed to Taconic Educational and Governmental Federal Credit Union, or TEG Federal Credit Union as we’re known by today.
Over time, employee groups in Dutchess County were also added to the field of membership. In 2003, TEG received a new community charter and opened its doors to all who lived, worked, worshiped, or attended school in Dutchess, Ulster or Orange County. The most recent extension of this charter on July 1, 2020 gave us the opportunity to serve all who live, work, worship or attend school in New York’s Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, Ulster and Westchester Counties.
